What is Teeth Whitening Treatment?

This treatment process, also called tooth bleaching, is the process of transforming the color of existing teeth into lighter tones. It is a very effective method for lightening the color of the tooth and restoring it to its natural position.

Why Should I Whiten My Teeth?

Tooth color may differ for each person. External factors such as tea, coffee, and cigarettes cause discoloration of our teeth. As age progresses, the color of the teeth becomes darker and loses its brightness. White and vibrant tooth color has been among the most sought-after features in aesthetic smile design for centuries. Therefore, if you think that the color of your teeth has darkened, you should see your dentist.

What is the Effect of the Whitening Process on Teeth?

This process does not cause any abrasion on the surface of the tooth. No layer is removed from its surface of it. Whitening is done with special agents applied to the tooth surface. During the procedure, other tissues other than teeth are protected with isolation gels. The gel containing Hydrogen Peroxide or Carbamide Peroxide active ingredient is applied to the tooth. Blue light is applied to activate the product used and to increase the effect.

How Long Does the Teeth Whitening Process Take?

After determining the suitability of your teeth for whitening, first of all, the calculus and the stains on the surface should be cleaned. Whitening can be done in the same session or the next session. It takes an average of 1 hour. Home bleaching may be required after in-clinic bleaching. In such cases, the process takes several weeks.

Are My Teeth Suitable for the Procedure?

Teeth whitening can be applied to all healthy teeth. With the examination of your dentist, it is decided whether the whitening process is suitable for your teeth. If appropriate, the tone to be implemented to the teeth can be shown with the color scale or pictures.

Can Teeth Whitening Be Done at Home?

Two different methods are applied, in the office (in the clinic) and at home. Office-type whitening is usually done first and if necessary, the home-type application is done additionally.
Home bleaching is done with gels with low Hydrogen Peroxide content placed in plaques made by the physician. It is applied at certain times for 3-4 weeks.

Is Whitening a Painful Procedure?

It is normal to feel very little sensitivity during the whitening process. However, some patients may have pain that will go away with painkillers for a few hours afterward.

How Long Does the Whiteness Last?

After the treatment, you will need to stay away from certain foods and beverages. It is very important for the success of whitening that you do not consume cigarettes, coffee, tea, alcohol and beverages, and foods that your doctor will specify for a short time.
Your whiter tooth color after whitening will begin to return to its original color after a certain period, depending on your oral care and diet. This period varies between 12-18 months. The whitening process can be repeated a few times according to your doctor’s advice.
