Endodontic Treatment / Canal Treatment

What is Endodontic Treatment?

Human teeth are anatomically composed of three layers. These 3 layers of the tooth are the enamel layer, which looks like glass and provides the appearance of the tooth, the dentin layer, which gives the tooth its strength and flexibility, and the pulp, which consists of vessels and nerves, which provide the vitality of the tooth.

Endodontic treatment (popularly known as root canal treatment) can be summarized as disinfecting the cavity formed by removing the pulp of the teeth that have been infected, lost their vitality, or whose living tissues have been opened or will be opened due to prosthetic reasons, and filling them with an airtight filling material that will not allow bacterial growth.

How is the Endodontic Treatment Done?

The related tooth is anesthetized with a local anesthetic. One of the most important factors determining the success of root canal treatment is inside the canals of the tooth. It is the absence of substances that can cause infection, such as blood, saliva, etc. For this, a rubber cover is applied in the name of isolation of the tooth. Rubber cover application is an application that significantly increases the comfort and success of treatment for both the doctor and the patient. After the necessary isolation is done, direct access to the pulp chamber and canals of the teeth is provided. At this stage, there should not be any infected tissue (decayed tissue) in the tooth. After the transportation is provided, the tooth canals are shaped with the latest technology rotary tools we use. Effective disinfection is achieved with ultrasonic devices and the inside of the channels is purified from bacteria. If the inside of the canals is clean and dry, the canals are filled with suitable filling materials, and then the tooth is restored to health and function with the appropriate restoration (filling, veneer, porcelain filling, etc.).
