What Kinds of Symptoms Are There in Periodontal Diseases?

The first symptom of periodontal diseases, which are common in society, is bleeding in the gums. There is bleeding and tenderness, especially during brushing. Such patients report bleeding gums even when eating hard foods. In addition to bleeding, itching of the gums and bad breath may accompany. Gingivitis is followed by periodontitis (inflammation of the surrounding tissues). If left untreated, serious problems can occur up to the loosing and loss of teeth.

Most of the time, since the patient does not have a complaint such as pain, it can progress without symptoms and it is possible to have a serious bone loss when noticed. For this, you should have your 6-month dental check-ups without interruption.

What is the Main Cause of the Loss of Bone Holding My Teeth?

  • The main reason is bacterial plaque accumulating on the surface of the teeth and gums. This plaque then turns into tartars and causes more serious problems.
  •  However, genetic, environmental, and systematic factors may also be factors in the formation of the disease.
  • Systemic factors include diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, epilepsy, Down syndrome, AIDS, and blood diseases.

How is the treatment done?

The main purpose of periodontal treatment is to keep the teeth in the mouth.

It is possible that definite results can be obtained when necessary interventions are made with early diagnosis.

First of all, the treatment is started with the cleaning of tartars, which we call phase 1 treatment. Usually, at the beginning of the problems, tartar cleaning solves all the problems.

After cleaning, Oral Hygiene Training is given to provide more ideal oral care. If necessary, flap operation and curettage should be performed. In case of gingival recession, advanced surgical procedures are required.
